This is an limited edition original lithographic art print of a Marsh Tit by Fiona Hamilton printed onto thin Japanese tissue with oil based inks. The reference photograph is by wildlife photographer, David Pallash. The Marsh Tit is a small brown bird with a black cap, found in the UK, Europe and Norther Asia.
Fiona used the kithen litho process to make this print, a low impact, but effective process to replace the need for strong chemicals by replacing them for the much lower doses found in household staples such as the phosphoric acid and gum arabic present in cola.
Kozo paper comes from the Mulberry tree and is incredibly strong while being lightweight. Please be aware that this paper is very thin so will need mounting onto a white background for framing, though a good framer will easily be able to help.
About the artist:
Fiona Hamilton is a Bristol based printmaker. Her work explores the ecological sublime and an appreciation of the majesty of nature. She uses detailed intaglio etching, drypoint, lithography and chine collé to draw the viewer into an ethereal landscape that has an impact on our sense of place in relation to the natural world. She uses primarily black and white with natural tones of chine collé and sometimes layers of lithographic texture to introduce warmth to the stark palette and to invoke a sublime emotional connection. She works from sketches, photographs, notes and memory to create her prints.
Fiona has an MA in Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking from The University of the West of England (2023). Previously she studied Graphic Fine Art at Canterbury (2002) and established Soma Gallery in 2004.
