Christmas 2024 Gift Guide #1 - Birdwatchers, Twitchers, Birders

We thought this year it might be fun to come up with a some niche gift guides for Christmas 2024. Over the years, particularly when we had the physical space, we were asked for some help looking for gifts for very specific demographics of people. Let's face it - it's one of the more fun aspects of running a retail business, that face-to-face problem solving. The trickier, the more fun!

So here we have number one in our Christmas 2024 series of gift guides: Birdwatchers/Twitchers/Birders.

Our 20th Anniversary Edition just happens to be chock full of birds and a great size for gifting. They are available both framed and unframed depending on your budget.

Bird song screen print by matthew green featuring a bird playing a twig like a flute. Bird is perched on a stump and has two arms and hands.

This beautiful print is a bit of a favourite, and definitely requires a second look. 'Bird Song' by Matthew Green, two colour screen print, 18x24cm, ed of 50, £50 unframed.

Flock of tiny waders lino cut print in black and white by Melanie Wickham

Lino cut prints have a great mid-century feel to them, even when the cutting style is contemporary like this one. 'Flock of Tiny Waders' by Melanie Wickham, lino cut, 18x24cm, £30 unframed.

Acreen print by Anna MArrow of a small yellow bird with a big blue shadow

'The Kingfisher' screen print, ed of 50, 18x24cm, unframed £50 by Tom Frost has been one of the more popular from the series so won't hang around for long.

Fiona Hamilton's wood engravings of birds are always popular too. This sweet shrike is no exception. 'Red-Backed Shrike' edition of 50, wood engraving and letterpress, 18x24cm, £30 unframed.

'Annet Storm Petrels' is a screen print by Pirrip Press, 18x24cm, ed of 50, unframed £30. Alex Higlett is a Bristol based printmaker who created this print using hand drawn and painted stencils.

This final image from our 20 year collection is by Graham Carter and is 'Pigeon Racer', screen print, 18x15cm, ed of 50, £30 unframed.

For stocking fillers we have this Robin lasercut screen printed wood hanging decoration by Fiona Hamilton, £10.

Another by linocut is 'Lots of Birds in Pyjamas' by Melanie Wickham, linocut, 37x56cm, ed of 30, £125.

While we do have more bird themed artwork at Soma, I hope this is a really nice collection of work, or perhaps works as a little starting point to help you find some artists whose work you like.
