Over the past five years I have developed a facination with architecture, particularly modernist buildings. The repetition and geometric patterns within the structures fascinate me. Often seen as eyesores, modernist architecture was highly frowned upon, and its architectural qualities ignored. In my paintings and screenprints I try to take the great qualities of these buildings and present them in an almost absract way. Moving more towards patterned representation that architectural likeness.

I collect old architecture books and magazines and take photos of the architecture around me, and from these, with the use of simple flat bold colours, I create almost abstract paintings and prints. Hand rollered, scalpel precise paintings with house hold matt emulsion on aluminium frames. The matt of the paint against the reflective qualities of the aluminium help accentuate the pattern and. My screenprints are made in a very similar fashion, hand cut stencils on rubylith to give a clear bold simplified look, with a use of strong colours creates almost unrecognisable abstract representations of the architecture it is taken from.
