Pencil'in is the second exhibition
from recently opened Soma Gallery in Clifton Arcade. The exhibition features
work from Will Ainley, Karin Akesson, Adam Bridgland, Lucy Gough &
David Waters. The artists in Pencil'in all use the medium of drawing in
very innovative and different ways.
Will Ainley is an illustrator
based in Brighton. He has had illustrations featured in Dazed and Confused
and Creative Review. He uses pens to draw his amusing illustrations.
Swedish born Karin Akesson studied
at the RCA and lives in London. She is showing a series of beautifully
printed wrapping papers. The work transfers the symbolism from flowers
to the wrapping papers to convey a message.
Adam Bridgland's work is inspired
by the aesthetic of the colouring book. He is showing a selection of screenprints.
Adam uses colour in his work to achieve a striking effect with the simple
imagery
Lucy Gough works in Mixed media
and is showing screenprints on wallpaper alongside hand printed greetings
cards.
Bristol based David Waters, a
recent Illustration graduate from Bath Spa starts with a drawing and adds
colour using the computer. His beautifully drawn inanimate objects such
as ticket stubs are transformed into attractive artworks.
