Decadence is a luxurious Christmas exhibition featuring Illustration,
Prints, Ceramics, Textiles and Jewellery.
Decadence heralds the return to Bristol of Container, an Illustration
duo based in London. Container are Nicola Carter and Luise Vormittag.
They met whilst studying Graphic Design at Camberwell College of Art,
graduating in 2002. Having started as solo illustrators they now collaborate
on each project undertaken. Creative Review nominated them as one of the
Creative Futures in 2003, which gave them the opportunity of designing
a window display for Selfridges on Oxford Street. They were recently commissioned
to decorate the walls of the Lab café in Selfridges on Oxford Street
with their Illustrations.
Chellie Carroll is a Designer and Illustrator whose incredible artwork
has been commissioned by BBC3 and magazines including Adrenaline and Bogey.
Over the last twelve months she has been developing her own personal artwork
to escape some of the creative restrictions imposed by corporate work.
She revisits the classical, traditional and beautiful aspects of Fine
and Graphic Arts resulting in powerful and hypnotic imagery.
Paul Willoughby is another London based Illustrator. He graduated from
Loughborough University in 2001 with a degree in Illustration. His clients
include Adrenalin, Bogey, Jack, The Guardian, The FT Magazine, The Independent,
Time Out and Fader. The inspiration for his work includes old printed
ephemera, 70's graphics, craft books, photography yearbooks, kids drawings
and Japanese woodblock prints.
The Ceramics, jewellery and textiles in Decadence are as the title suggests.
Mizuno Yamashita's tiny wobbly bowls are imprinted with flowers and butterflies.
Susan Kerr's silver and leather jewellery incorporates organic forms with
an art deco twist while Miss Budd's silk purses and scarves hark back
to a glamorous era in fashion with key designs featuring shoes, buttons,
bows and retro illustrations sourced from her trips to places like Coney
Island in New York and London's antique markets.
